Where are all the job seekers?

It’s no secret that finding legal candidates is a challenge in South Australia. The recent release of SEEK figures, highlights that whilst labour demand fell across all industries in Australia from the March 2023 quarter, to the March 2024 quarter, the exception was legal, which is no surprise to those looking to secure legal staff.
So, this raises the question about what employers can do to overcome the hurdles they face when looking to appoint new talent in such a tight candidate market.
Firstly, law firms need to recognise the importance of partnering with a legal specialist recruitment agency, such as in2view recruitment. By leveraging our expertise and industry knowledge, law firms will have access to a wider pool of qualified candidates. At in2view recruitment, our talent pool is continually updated and refreshed, as we are focused on this very task on a daily basis.
Employers should also recognise the importance of offering greater flexibility and options to work from home – most candidates now raise this question at interview, and the pandemic has demonstrated that in many situations, WFH arrangements can be highly effective.
Candidates are also seeking greater clarity surrounding KPIs, opportunities for career advancement, and the training and mentorship on offer. Whilst salary is quite often a driver, many graduate and junior lawyers in their first 2 years of supervised practice, put mentorship at the top of their wish list. The lure of an attractive salary is not everything to talented lawyers looking to be mentored by successful senior lawyers who can impart invaluable information and expertise.
Another factor that can affect the recruitment process is time – lengthy and drawn-out processes send a message of uncertainty to a job seeker, not just surrounding their suitability for a role, but the longer-term implications of working in a business that takes too much time to make decisions. Granted that no-one should make a hasty decision where hiring staff is concerned, but in our current market and tight talent pool, prolonged delays are quite often a deal breaker.
While the legal sector continues to thrive, there has never been a better time to partner with a specialist recruitment agency such as in2view recruitment. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Maura on 8338 0189 with any questions or requests for assistance to fill job vacancies.
